GUIDED IMAGERY:

Creative Interventions in Counselling and Psychotherapy

A one-day experiential workshop to be facilitated by

Eric Hall BA, BSc, PhD, AFBPS, Chartered Psychologist

Saturday 11 February 2012    9:30 am - 5:00 pm    Fee: £65.00

About the workshop:

The aim of the workshop is to provide counsellors and psychotherapists with the opportunity to explore the possibility of using imagery techniques in their practice.  The main emphasis will be on an interactive form of guided imagery where the therapist engages with the imagery as it is being reported aloud by the client.  This contrasts with guided imagery which is provided by the facilitator in the form of a script, which will also be considered.  Most of the workshop will be on the interactive form which permits clients to generate and work with images that are unique to them.

Reported benefits/applications of this technique include:-

         ~ Increases mindfulness and awareness of emotions and bodily sensations;

         ~ Promotes relaxation and stress reduction;

         ~ Increases imaginal and problem solving capacities;

         ~ Can initiate a breakthrough when the process seems stuck;

         ~ Boosts the immune system.

The day will involve demonstrations of technique and the opportunity to practise and receive feedback from a client and an observer.  This will allow participants to experience guided imagery both from the position of therapist and client.  Former participants have described this process as both relaxing and providing new insights into their own lives.  There will be a limited theoretical input and a consideration of client suitability for this process.
