About the workshop:

This is a workshop for practitioners - counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, mental health workers and other helping professionals.  It will focus on the challenges and possibilities presented by engaging with the client's spirituality.

The workshop will include:

What is spirituality, and its relationship to therapy?

Approaches to, and reflections on, working with spirituality

Live demonstration by William of 'spiritually informed therapy'

Problems and challenges in this way of working

Ample time will be provided for discussion, comments and questions.


About William West:

Dr William West directs the Counselling Studies Programme at the University of Manchester and is well known for his research, writing and practice around spirituality and therapy.  William is the author of many papers and two books on spirituality: 'Psychotherapy and Spirituality: crossing the line between therapy and religion' (Sage, 2000) and 'Spirituality Issues in Therapy: relating experience to practice' (Palgrave MacMiIllan, 2004); and co-edited, with Dr Roy Moodley, 'Integrating Traditional Healing into Counselling and Psychotherapy' (Sage, 2005).  His latest book  'Exploring Counselling Spirituality and Healing' is due for publication in the autumn, hopefully in time for this workshop.
